Cats.... Meow.
Joseph Ratzinger, the Holy Father Benedict XVI, loves cats. The story's been told that one morning, on leaving his apartment on Citta Leonina, the street kitties whom the Prefect would routinely talk to and pet, waited outside the door and followed him, in a line, to the Holy Office. A Swiss Guard interjected, "Your Eminence! The cats are taking over the Vatican!" Could it be that, maybe in lieu of John Paul kissing the ground in a new country, Pope Benedict XVI will be presented with a local cat to kiss? Maybe he'll talk to it for five minutes, who knows? It's just fabulous. So, be on the lookout for cats slipping through the Portone di Bronzo.

Safe Environment For Our Children

Sexual misconduct is contrary to the fundamental dignity of each and every human person, to the values of the gospel, and to the teachings of the Church. Yet, as an assembly of believers who are sinners, we who form the Church are not immune to the pervasive societal reality of sexual abuse.

On June 14, 2002, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops approved the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Revised in 2005, the Charter addresses the Church’s commitment to create a safe environment for children and young people and to deal effectively with the sin of sexual abuse of minors by clergy, employees, and volunteers of the Church.

As required by the Charter, all employees and volunteers who have regular contact with children at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church must undergo fingerprinting by the U.S. Department of Justice, register with the Diocese of Santa Rosa, and participate in training on the recognition and reporting of child abuse. Children who attend religious education programs take part in the scripturally based Safe Kids/Smart Kids program which gives information on personal safety, the sacredness of the body, trusting feelings of discomfort, and ways to get help if it is needed.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is committed to the safety and well-being of its youngest and most vulnerable parishioners. For more information please contact the Safe Environment Coordinator at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church:

Stop The Violence!

Domestic Violence and The Permanence of Marriage

Some abused women believe that Catholic Church teaching on the permanence of marriage requires them to stay in an abusive relationship. They may hesitate to seek a separation or divorce. They may fear that they cannot re-marry in the Catholic Church. In the book, "When I Call For Help: A Pastoral Response to Domestic Violence Against Women", the Catholic Bishops emphasize that "no person is expected to stay in an abusive marriage. Violence and abuse, not divorce, break up a marriage."
